Biostatistics/Informatics Associate Director/Director, Translational Medicine

Position summary:

This biostatistics expert is a key position responsible for leading and providing biostatistical analysis and support for clinical trial and translational datasets in immuno-oncology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for technical and strategic leadership and will collaborate with clinical and preclinical teams and outside collaborators. We are seeking an individual with a deep background in statistical methods and analyses of next-generation sequencing data. This is a high profile and visible position and you will be viewed as a strong scientific hands-on leader.

  • Responsible for initiating, designing, performing, and managing statistical analysis of biomarker and clinical trial data
  • Opportunity to build biostatistics and bioinformatics functions and play a pivotal role in developing immuno-oncology therapeutics
  • Ability to derive meaningful biological results from complex and correlative analyses across large data sets including next generation sequencing, proteomics, clinical trial, and public datasets.
  • Leverage existing methods and drive the development and implementation of novel statistical and computational techniques for analyzing data
  • Communicate and collaborate with clinical and therapeutic teams to effectively influence and drive biomarker and companion diagnostics hypotheses
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in life sciences or biostatistics, with 4-8 years of experience handling clinical and preclinical biologic data of various kinds including biomarker and next-generation sequencing data (e.g. RNAseq, SNV)
  • Must have comprehensive training in statistics. Experience in machine learning/predictive modeling a plus
  • Strong background in biological sciences; experience in immune oncology preferred
  • Proficiency with R, Bioconductor packages, SAS, and at least one programing language

Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Purification Process Development

Position summary:

OncoMed Pharmaceuticals is developing novel biologic therapies for the treatment of cancer and currently has six clinical stage product candidates. OncoMed seeks an outstanding scientist who is looking to make a substantial impact on the delivery of Process Development/Manufacturing activities in the purification process development area. This position reports to the head of Process Development and Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Development and scale-up of multi-step purification processes for the production of monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies and Fc-fusion proteins
  • Design and execution of drug substance UF/DF formulation studies
  • Implementation of new purification technologies to optimize and streamline processes
  • Production of material for analytical development, internal research studies and non-GLP toxicology studies
  • Tech transfer of purification process to CMO for cGMP clinical manufacturing
  • Management of internal clinical material supply
  • Writing technical reports and presenting data in project and group meetings
  • Writing of regulatory sections
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BS in a scientific/engineering field and 6+ years of experience, MS with 4+ years or PhD with 1+ years; final level will be commensurate with candidate's experience

Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Analytical Sciences, Characterization and Method Development

Position summary:

OncoMed Pharmaceuticals is developing novel biologic therapies for the treatment of cancer and currently has four clinical stage product candidates. OncoMed seeks an outstanding scientist who is looking to make a substantial impact on the delivery of Process Development / Manufacturing activities in the analytical area. This position reports to the head of Analytical Sciences / QC.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Characterize antibodies, bispecific antibodies and Fc fusion proteins using a variety of techniques, including but not limited to mass spectrometry, peptide map, capillary electrophoresis, SEC, CEX, icIEF and oligosaccharide analyses
  • Develop, qualify and transfer methods from OncoMed’s development laboratory to CMOs for GMP release and stability testing
  • Perform method trouble shooting on existing and new assays, both at OncoMed and CMOs
  • Contribute to investigation and resolution of out-of-specification (OOS) and out-of-trend (OOT) testing results
  • Execute routine testing of process development samples
  • Contribute as an author of IND sections, particularly the elucidation of structure section
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BS in a scientific/engineering field and 6+ years of experience, MS with 4+ years or PhD with 1+ years; final level will be commensurate with candidate's experience
  • Must have experience in Process Development, analyzing protein based therapeutics

Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Immunotherapy

Position summary:

OncoMed Pharmaceuticals is developing novel biologics targeting the immune system for the treatment of cancer and currently has several clinical stage product candidates. We are inviting an outstanding scientist to join the Immuno-Oncology group to participate in developing new IO biologics. Research areas of interest include immune checkpoint inhibitors and immune activators in TNF superfamily members. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and desire to make significant contributions to move novel IO agents towards the clinic. This position reports to the Sr. Director.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide scientific leadership in immunology and implement in vivo preclinical studies to evaluate efficacy and understand mechanism of action of therapeutics
  • Actively participate in internal and external scientific meetings by presenting and critically evaluating the science and contribute to projects
  • Generate and evaluate new scientific ideas in the Immuno-Oncology field
Requirements:
  • Ph. D. with minimum of 3 years post-doctoral training in Immunology, preferably in myeloid cell biology
  • Expertise in hands-on in vivo skills: tumor implantation, dosing, blood and tissue collections
  • Expertise in ex vivo assays assessing various immune populations, including T cells, MDSCs, and DCs
  • Expertise in multi-color (>5 color) flow cytometry
  • Excellent publication record
  • Good interpersonal / communication skills, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative manner

Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Cell Line Development and Cell Culture

Position summary:

OncoMed Pharmaceuticals is developing novel biologic therapies for the treatment of cancer and currently has several clinical stage product candidates. OncoMed seeks an outstanding scientist who is looking to make a substantial impact on the delivery of Process Development/Manufacturing activities in the cell line development and cell culture process area. This position reports to the head of Process Development and Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Will generate high producing cell lines in mammalian cells for the production of monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies and Fc-fusion proteins
  • Specific activities include transfection, selection, single cell cloning, cell line stability studies and production of RCBs
  • Evaluation of cell lines in both AMBR and 5L bioreactor systems using the Lonza platform (fed batch) cell culture process
  • Production of harvested cell culture for downstream development and non-GLP toxicology studies
  • Transfer of cell line and cell culture process to CMO for GMP clinical manufacturing
  • Writing technical reports and presenting data in project and group meetings
Skills and Qualifications:
  • BS in a scientific/engineering field and 6+ years of experience, MS with 4+ years or PhD with 1+ years; final level will be commensurate with candidate’s experience

Research Assistant, Translational Medicine

Position summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher that enjoys working in a fast paced work environment. The successful candidate will play an essential role in OncoMed’s Translational Medicine Group working on immunohistochemistry (IHC) based predictive biomarker studies in support of OncoMed’s clinical pipeline. The candidate will report to the Director, Translational Medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • IHC staining, both manual and automated, on pre-clinical, non-clinical and clinical samples
  • Develop novel IHC assays using internally generated as well as commercially available antibodies
  • Imaging of tissue sections using automated microscopy, database entry, and manual and automated image analysis
  • Tissue sectioning and basic histology techniques
Requirements:
  • Degree in Biological Sciences or related discipline with at least 2 years pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience in histology, including tissue sample preparation, sectioning, special stains and particularly immunohistochemistry is required
  • Experience in the application of biomarkers towards oncology and immuno-oncology drug development is preferred
  • Familiarity with tumor pathology, cancer biology and image analysis is preferred
  • Excellent skills in written and oral communication are required
  • Works well and thrives in a collaborative matrix environment
